One of my favorite hacks for staying motivated to work out is making sure I feel cute for my workout sessions. I’d like to blame my lack of exercise efforts in 2020 on a number of things; lack of athleisure wardrobe updates, the pandemic, the weather. Well, I miss the mind-to-muscle connection and my back is starting to ache more frequently, a tell-tale sign I need to get back on track. Since the last time I bought gym wear was in early 2019, I thought I’d kick-start my exercise ambition of 2021 with some new additions.
Besides, it’s not that I just need gym wear for working out. With the dad shoe trend still going strong (I hope the comfortable footwear trend never ends, for the record), and life vastly playing out in the comfort of our home, I pose the rhetorical question: Who can resist a brand new tennis sock in 2021? Athleisure is the summary of life at the moment.
Conveniently, lots of great deals are to be found at the moment. Let’s deep dive into my Zalando shopping cart.
Cotton On Body Sportswear Favorites
First of all, an ode to the brand Cotton On Body. Remember I told you last time I bought athleisure wear it was April 2019? Well, what I bought back then was 4 sets of Cotton On Body. If I said I was impressed with the quality of Cotton On Body’s gym wear it would be the understatement of the century. I am beyond relieved that i found their products in Switzerland (I purchased the previous items in Cape Town). The materials have held up incredibly through a billion laundry cycles, and still look like new. Literally. I am shocked! See one of the outfits in this post.
For t-shirts, long- or short sleeved, I prefer shopping loose fits that can be tied up to define the waist line. I’m a hybrid hourglass-pear shape, so my waist is my slimmest point, and I can quickly feel that I look significantly heavier if tops aren’t the right fit: Either fitted or sufficiently loose to tie up. For workouts, I mostly just wear a bra and high-waisted leggings, but sometimes I like to wear a t-shirt for a bit more coverage.
I don’t particularly like classic, gym-specific t-shirts with prints, because it limits the functionality, and it makes me feel I need to run a marathon. The truth is I mostly lift weights, walk and do the occasional Peloton ride. Thus, I picked up some basic things from Cotton On Body on Zalando.

The hardest thing for me to buy by far is leggings – and pants in general. My waist is comparatively small to my bum-area, and I tend to carry any excess body fat on my thighs, so I’m quite picky about the fit and silhouette of leggings. I like having a bit of support as well, and they definitely need to be squat proof! I did end up getting the leopard printed leggings from Onzie, and I’m very curious to see the fit (edit: it’s good). I think they make a super cute addition and I feel they could be worn with regular clothes as well or running errands.
Iphoria Airpods Case, CHF 29,95

Reebok gym bag, CHF 22 (SALE)
During my scouring of the athleisure section I came across a few cute sportsbags. I picked up the pink Reebok above at a huge discount, and I’m happy I did. I have been using my Louis Vuitton Neverful as a gym bag for years, but sold it last year. I wanted something fully dedicated to being a gym bag, and while I can’t go to the gym again straight away, I can’t wait to use it post-lockdown.
Adidas socks, 6-pack, CHF 25
REVOLUTION 5, CHF 65
RENEW IN-SEASON TR 10, CHF 80
CROSSOVER BACK – Top, CHF 22
For winter time, I picked up a few beanies as I’m spending a lot of time walking the dog now – it’s amazing to get the fresh air, but it also calls for a bit of extra warmth. We live in a hilly area, so a good long walk definitely gives us both some solid, gentle exercise, but staying warm is still a must.
